Stephen makes his Scandinavian debut, staging a new production of Madama Butterfly, for the Danish National Opera/Den Jyske Opera. Conducted by Christian Kluxen and designed by Robert Innes Hopkins. 19 performances, touring nationally throughout Denmark during February and March.

Stephen returns to Opera Holland Park (for whom he has staged 8 productions) to direct the London professional premiere of Jonathan Dove's modern classic British opera Flight, conducted by Brad Cohen. 5 performances in June opening Saturday 6.
Stephen returns to Bucharest to stage an all new production of the iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Phantom of the Opera. Featuring an exciting cast of Romanian opera, pop and musical theatre stars and a dynamic young creative team from London's West End.

Stephen has been invited by Răzvan Ioan Dincă, the recently appointed Director General of the Bucharest National Opera, to stage the first new production of the incoming artistic regime. Stephen's new production of Rigoletto (updated to late 1920s Chicago) features set and costume designs by his frequent collaborator Yannis Thavoris and will be the first new production of this piece for the company in over 60 years. The season of performances opens on Thursday 20th February with performances through March and April.
