JUNE 2016

Stephen returns to Opera Holland Park staging a new Shakespearean/Elizabethan production of La Bohème in tribute to the Shakespeare 400 anniversary. Designed by Andrew D Edwards with Lighting by Howard Hudson and conducted by Matthew Waldren. 9 performances beginning June 11.


Stephen makes his Scandinavian debut, staging a new production of Madama Butterfly, for the Danish National Opera/Den Jyske Opera. Conducted by Christian Kluxen and designed by Robert Innes Hopkins. 19 performances, touring nationally throughout Denmark during February and March.


Stephen returns to Guildhall School of Music and Drama (for whom he has staged 6 productions) to direct a neglected early twentieth century hit opera, Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari's Le Donne Curiose, based on the play by Carlo Goldoni. Designed by Yannis Thavoris and conducted by Mark Shanahan. 4 performances 2, 4, 6 & 9 November.

JUNE 2015

Stephen returns to Opera Holland Park (for whom he has staged 8 productions) to direct the London professional premiere of Jonathan Dove's modern classic British opera Flight, conducted by Brad Cohen. 5 performances in June opening Saturday 6.


Stephen returns to Bucharest to stage an all new production of the iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Phantom of the Opera. Featuring an exciting cast of Romanian opera, pop and musical theatre stars and a dynamic young creative team from London's West End. 

This production will open in a newly purpose-built auditorium - Teatrul Ion Dacian.

JUNE 2014 

Stephen returns to Opera Holland Park with a new production of Pucinni's                   
La Fanciulla del West with set and costume designs by Yannis Thavoris and 
lighting design by Richard Howell. Conducted by Stuart Stratford and starring 
Susannah Glanville as Minnie.



Stephen has been invited by Răzvan Ioan Dincă, the recently appointed Director General of the Bucharest National Opera, to stage the first new production of the incoming artistic regime.  Stephen's new production of Rigoletto (updated to late 1920s Chicago) features set and costume designs by his frequent collaborator Yannis Thavoris and will be the first new production of this piece for the company in over 60 years. The season of performances opens on Thursday 20th February with performances through March and April.


Stephen's new production of two very rare one-act operas - Debussy's L'enfant prodigue and Donizetti's Francesca di Foix has four performances (4, 6, 8 & 11) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Dominic Wheeler conducts and Yannis Thavoris designs sets and costumes. All performances have sold out.


Stephen returns to Singapore to direct a new production of La Traviata which will play four performances this month with a pan Asian cast at the iconic Esplanade Theatre. Conducted by Joshua Tan with designs by Christopher Chua, lighting design by Dorothy Png and projection design by Chris Rock.

MAY 2013

Stephen returns to London's Opera Holland Park this summer with new productons of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci which will launch the new season on June 4th. 

These pieces, performed as a double bill, will be conducted by Stuart Stratford and designed by Yannis Thavoris. Cav & Pag will be Stephen's sixth production for Opera Holland Park.


Stephen makes his debut at the renown Lyric Opera of Chicago with a new staging of Verdi's Rigoletto designed by Robert Innes Hopkins and costumes by Jane Greenwood. 

The season of ten performances will be conducted by Evan Rogister. 


Stephen's new production of a Triple Bill of rarely performed one-act operas 
will have four performances at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This unique programme is comprised of two operas by Massenet - La Navarraise and 
Le Portrait de Manon and Martinu's Comedy on the Bridge. Peter Robinson 
conducts and Yannis Thavoris designs sets and costumes. 

JUNE 2012 

Stephen makes his debut with Santa Fe Opera staging a new production of Tosca starring Amanda Echalaz, designed by Yannis Thavoris and conducted byFrederic Chaslin. Tosca will open the 56th season on Friday 29th June. 

MAY 2012 

Stephen makes his debut with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis staging a new production of  Carmen  conducted by Carlos Izcaray which will open the 
37th season on Saturday 19th May.

MARCH 2012 

Stephen's new production of  The Magic Flute designed by Yannis Thavoris and conducted by Jane Glover will have four performances at the Royal Academy 
of Music this month. All performances are sold out.


Stephen's debut production with the Wexford Festival Opera -  La Cour de Célimène - has been nominated for Best Opera Production of 2011 in the annual Irish Times annual Theatre Awards.
